11 Together Orphanage – Become Part of our Family & Story

In Uganda today, more than 30% of country’s population under the age of 15, 1 million of those children are orphans, and 600,000 of those children have no home, they live among the streets by the walls of beautiful buildings, garbage, abandoned houses and are passed by millions of people everyday . The lives of these children are at high risk as they live without food, shelter and spend days begging.

Their hearts are delicate organs. A cruel beginning in this world can twist them into curious shapes. The heart of a hurt child can shrink so that forever afterward it is hard and pitted as the seed of a peach. Or, again, the heart of such a child may fester and swell until it is misery to carry within the body, easily chafed and hurt by the most ordinary things, whatever they grow up to be, they are still our children, and the one most important of all the things we can give to them is unconditional love not a love that depends on anything at all except that they are our children, they need love because they deserve it.

4 Months ago we met children abandoned by the ones who had tried to live and care for them in their daily needs , we don't know reasons behind this but all we know is that because of poverty and other conditions they were forced to leave these beautiful children. As we all know it takes two to get a child and it takes the whole world to raise child and that's how the world delivered us these little ones.....Out of a street life is like out of a battle between life and death. 11 together are the children both with different talents and dreams in them and that makes them special, When they were with their mothers, were Angels, When dumped became street Children, When we met them we made them our friends and one family! . Now here's the Story...

We all met in Bwaise where we found ourselves on the same street. The ones that could talk shared how they came together; It started with daisy, Rashidah, Tony and later others joined. When It was 11 of us it was a surprise some of use were remembering the lives we lived having food, sleeping in our beds and others hearing songs from our mothers that keep us happy and being able to celebrate days of our lives in happiness at this time what wasn't possible.

It was a time for us being responsible of our own lives that the lived we lived didn't matter anymore. We were all abandoned by our family friends and mothers because there wasn't any help for us to live  and survive on together with them , it marked the beginning of living on tithes day by day struggling  to live  in tears and beginning strangers for food, we realized that what our mothers used to call us  "Angels" was never true because if we were one we would be treated like angels.

11 of us lived 5months without clothing and shelter and our dreams didn't matter anymore until one day someone came to us and took us to the police station where we thought we were free from suffering but the thought on this wonderful chance to live in a home again was more important which later was the room next to prisoners was more of a life than the streets it also became difficult. It’s sad seeing and learning how hard someone has to live in their day to day at such ages but being young what can you do other than appreciating what you are given everyday?

Later came uncle "Kennedy" we never knew a lot about him but rather the words he said; Meeting you was my dream, many children in this world have lived without a family and still today they are, I’ve come here because my heart has always been touched by children in these conditions and because I once lived like you have, so the reason am here is to make you part of my family and try to give that life you lost back to you.

21st May ,2011 these children came to their new home, We decided to do what we called " What we have now serves , what we haven't will come" even if we didn't fulfilled our need for the funds we got but were able to them a Home with a few things to start on with. From that day they became part of our family, now and on here working everyday to support them, bringing them close as a family and giving them a life they had lost , a place to play and people to call a family :) .

What was days went to weeks and weeks became months, they were able to meet wonderful people who gave them love, played with them, taught them different things and shared stories about their life experiences. These people came from different cultures; they were volunteers from which they became friends and later on inspirations in the children's lives.

Because we know what it takes to raise one child and how about 11 children? Our challenges with these kids have existed from providing their basic needs to giving good education. Ugandan Schools started 5th September because we wanted to not let them miss this school term we have transferred the kids to live within a small room next to their new residence house "which needs $285 for renovation" now as they study from Mt. Zion Primary School, our challenge still stands for renovating this new house for them and we share this challenge with the world so you can possibly help us realize this dream for  them;

HOW CAN WE MAKE IT HAPPEN?

- We need $285 in total, donate any amount towards the Project by E-mailing: kennedy@mzunguvolunteers.org , for details on how to donate
- Donate/Collect Children clothing, shoes and toys to send for these children
- Organise an event in your community, school or university to support the orphanage.
- Spread the word to family and friends to help us make it happen.
-  Or you can choose to Sponsor the orphanage with $150 or $300 a month to provide food for them. email us for details and questions.
- Come and become a volunteer, join us in renovating the home or taking care of the children and become an inspiration to the kids as they will to you!

From the day we met these children until now we stand beside them as a family, to feed, cloth and to give them a shelter and education, this can't be possible alone but you joining our family counts and together with the children can't say how much thankful we are to everyone who has or wants to join us.

Our hands are very open!, If you , your family or any one wants to be part of our family and help by supporting or volunteering with our orphanage we welcome you to be part of us too. We can’t wait to meet you!

Much love from Uganda!
